Aquila and Priscilla: A Team for Jesus!
Acts 18:2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. Act 18:3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tent makers.
Acts 18:18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
Acts 18:26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
Romans 16:3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
1 Corinthians 16:19 The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
2 Timothy 4:19 Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
In the Bible there are many accounts of this famous couple working together for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They worked and laboured in the Gospel along side each other and alongside the Apostle Paul. They are always mentioned together in Scripture. You do not find one without the other mentioned. They worked together in the natural and in the Spiritual. If married couples today would realize that Jesus put them together for the same kind of ministry, then there would be less dissatisfaction in the home life and the church life. The Apostle Paul did not have a wife. He may have had one in the past before he became an Apostle, because we know he was part of the Sanhedrin, and they were required to be married, but we do not see him in Scripture having a wife. We have many friends in ministry who have great callings of Jesus.
It really encourages me to see them working together in the Gospel. It is a sad thing when only one Partner feels a call to the ministry when both are put together by Jesus for a specific purpose. It means they do not understand that each were given to the other by Jesus for His purpose. I so many times see the wife not feeling a part of the ministry. She is often left out or cast aside while the husband goes out to minister alone. Many times women feel like they are not the one called but He is.That is very far from the truth. If she were not called, then she would not be the one married to the man who is preaching. Maybe she is a teacher or a minister of music. It is possible that she is called to be his administrative assistant etc. We all have a place in the Church of Jesus Christ. The problem is that we have the denominational mentality such as the Baptist or Catholic or Church of Christ denominational background teachings as strongholds and the enemy is using them to keep couples who are called by Jesus from fulfilling their potential in the field that Jesus has called them into.
We cannot use having babies as an excuse. I preached pregnant as did many other Apostolic ladies. I took my nursing babies into the prayer room with me. I have pulled
over in the car many times to comfort a fussy baby coming back from a revival in another city. I was helping plant an outreach church once and my daughter Stephanie would come up in her walker right in front of the pulpit when I was preaching to listen to my voice. We cannot use children for an excuse when the real truth is WE DON"T WANT TO OBEY JESUS! Sister Nona Freeman took her babies to South Africa and still put up tents and preached to the villagers. Sister Alvear down in the nation of Brazil works right along side her husband planting churches and doing the gospel work. One couple went up into Nova Scotia. They had so much church work to do that he pastored one work while she pastored the other just across the border. They did not have enough pastors to go around and someone had to lead the group until a Pastor rose up or came to help them. We have to do what we can for Jesus. I tell my children at home that we should hurry and get all our work done on Saturday afternoon before dark preparing for our Sunday of rest and ministry. The Scripture that speaks of working before the night cometh where no man can work always comes to mind. We need to get together in our own households and families before we are able to teach others or we do not qualify for the work of Jesus.
I waited for years for the ministry Dr.Klein and I have together. I am very thankful for it. I don't expect to see him running off to to teach without me as his Partner, nor am I running off to preach without him as mine. We are a team as Aquila and Priscilla were, we and plan to keep it that way.
In Jesus,
Dana Klein
