Family Bible Study

Hello Friends,

The goal in our family is to have a family Bible study, when we as a family set down in our living room and have Jesus teach us through a family member. Last evening, Ashleigh taught us on an aspect of spiritual warfare. She is twelve. Saturday evening, Joseph our seven year old will teach our family Bible study. Normally, I teach the family Bible study. Our children know how to teach the Bible.

Some parents expect the church to teach their children. From my experience, Sunday School is when they make a craft and learn a Bible story which most children already know. Why? Most churches seem to use a standard curriculum from their denomination. The lessons are not written by the Sunday School teacher for the spiritual level of his or her students.

I believe parents have the responsibility to train their child. Children must be taught how to make godly choices in life. Is not to train your child in Jesus' ways, sin?

In years past benching was used by many families to teach their children. Benching is when after supper all would stay at the table to pray and study the Bible.

"And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest
in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deuteronomy 6:7

"Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. 5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: 6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:" Psalm 78:3-7

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

"And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. " Ephesians 6:4

"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15
