Spiritual warfare lessons from Deuteronomy

I. Watch out for the Ways of the World

“The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. ²⁶ Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.” Deuteronomy 7:25-26

The devil who is the god of this world is trying to snare you. For some of you, he may have succeeded. Who is your god? Your TV? Your books? Your car? Your pastor? Your dirty magazines? You get the point. There are many snares which can turn into a false god. Satan is behind each false god!

“Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.” Deuteronomy 12:30

What is Jesus trying to teach you in this verse? Do not inquire after the gods of this world. There are many snares in the world. Commercials on TV are a snare. Disney movies have many snares. We don’t watch TV's ‘graven images’ in our home, ever. There is no way for us to get reception, no cable or antenna. Materialism is a snare. ‘Graven images’ are used to teach materialism. Being in debt is not of Jesus. The world worships material goods – cars, beauty, money, gold, silver, etc.

Why did Jehovah (Jesus) need to destroy all of the Canaanites? They were polluted by their false gods!

II. Watch out for False Signs and Wonders

“If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, ² And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; ³ Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. ⁵ And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee. ⁶ If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;” Deuteronomy 13:1-6

There are many prophets, pastors, teachers, etc. in so-called Christianity giving signs to get you to follow a false Jesus. Paul warned of those teaching a different Jesus. Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin are teachers of a false Jesus. Their Jesus died spiritually ending in Hell to be beat-up by the devil. No, No No! Please see my blog on this issue. The Trinitarians teach a Jesus who is secondary to Father. The list goes on and on. Many Christians (Apostolics) today are buying into much of the false doctrines of the Copelands, Hagins, etc. TV is used to broadcast the ‘graven images’ of these false teachers including their false signs and wonders.

III. Watch out for the Snared Relative and Friend

“If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; ⁷ Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; ⁸ Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: ⁹ But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. ¹⁰ And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. ¹¹ And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.” Deuteronomy 13:6-11

Many well meaning people have said to me ‘Bruce, you are too narrow. If you would just not be so strong on your understanding of the Bible, you could pastor a really big church making lots of money.’ Sure I could, and I would end up in HELL! I did pastor a church with a big building, a parsonage, etc. until I took a stand for Jesus' TRUTH! The snares of the devil are popularity and money, etc.

IV. Watch out for Brothers and Sisters who are Snared

“If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying, ¹³ Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; ¹⁴ Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you; ¹⁵ Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.” Deuteronomy 13:12-15

There is a time to separate from Christian (Apostolic) brothers and sisters. I am writing a Biblical study guide on Biblical separation. A much needed teaching during this time of Apostolics following ‘every wind of doctrine’.
